  7. The SGIL company of France has provided a shareware INIT which
  8. replaces the SANE calls in your Macintosh with a faster mathematics
  9. library.  It performs all calculations in REAL*4 precision (32 bits
  10. instead of SANE╒s 80 bits) which results in a nice speed improvement
  11. for FORTRAN applications running on an SE or Plus without the floating
  12. point co-processor.  The Whetstone benchmark improves by a factor
  13. of 2.2 on an SE.

  15. For many applications this reduced precision is acceptable.  Language
  16. Systems Corp. strongly recommends that you consider the effects of
  17. reduced precision in your application.

  19. To use FFP_Control, simply drop a copy into your system folder and
  20. reboot your machine.  It will automatically replace SANE, but can
  21. be disabled form the control panel.  FFP_Control is shareware; if
  22. you try it and decide to keep it, send $30 to SGIL as requested
  23. on their title screen.  To view the title screen, select FFP_Control
  24. from the control panel, and click the button called INFO.  Please
  25. do not violate SGIL╒s copyright by keeping an unregistered copy.
